Just want to share a recent discovery:

As you know, it is quite easy to listen to classical music radio
channels via the internet or the TV satellites. But if you are keen on
getting a (good) classical music radio station in your car in Dubai, I
encourage you to get a Tongshi DAMB radio, which comes with a
subscription to the MAESTRO channel which is broadcasted via the
Worldspace satellite.

The Tongshi is a little radio that fits easilly in any car's dashboard,
is powered via the cigarette lighter 12V, connects wirelessly to your
car radio, has a magnetic antenna on the roof of the car, and gives an
audio quality similar to FM.

The radio is sold @ 699 AED all incl, with a one-year subscription to
various music channels, incl. classical, jazz, etc.

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) will be holding its Bi-Annual 2nd Hand Book Bazaar 2006.

For Book lovers, this is an event not to be missed. We have a wide range of all types of books for all ages, novels, language books, sports, cookery, teenage interests, arts and crafts and various others to suits all needs. Please encourage friends, colleagues and parents to support by visiting and supporting a good cause.

All the proceeds from the book sales fund MSF’s work with populations in need around the world.

In addition to Book sales, this year we are including a fun station for the kids. We will have daily story-telling sessions, fun quizzes and colouring competitions. There will be small prizes awarded daily to the winners. Thanks to Bookworm for kindly donating the prizes.

Please note we are still collecting books. If you would like to donate unwanted books, Please drop them off at your earliest to the MSF offices (Dune Centre, 4th Floor, Office #413, Al Diyafah, Al Satwa).

the studio of top advertising (and fine art) photographer,
Tim Flach. And on 24th and 25th September you will be able

African elephant, a pot bellied Vietnamese pig, shy bats

His images are also in the permanent collections of the
City Hall and Citadel in Berlin, and The Heng Dian in China.

to see a small collection of Tim's work at Wafi Mall.

Thanks to Tim Flach, Wafi and 7 Days, this event has become more
that just a great opportunity for photographers and art lovers
to meet and learn from a master photographer.
At the end of the exhibition, the 15 beautiful limited
edition prints will be auctioned off at a Charity Auction
on the 27th September and the profits donated to
Al Noor - Training Centre for Special Needs Children.

Maximum word count is 5000 words.
Submission deadline is 31 July 2005.

Submission must be an original work of the author and not
published anywhere else.
Manuscripts to be formatted on white A4 size paper
with double-spaced lines.

Please attach a cover sheet with your name, telephone number,
email address, title of your manuscript and the word count.
Manuscripts could be submitted in either one of the following ways:

ADOPT A BABY PLANT

Yesterday evening, there was a knock on my door.
Standing there was this elderly lady in a jeans
and t-shirt with Adopt a Plant and World Environment
Day slogans on it (June 5 to June 11 is WED).

She was carrying a plastic bag full of test tubes
with a plant inside them packed in a see through
cardboard box.
"Would you like to grow a plant?", she asked.
"It's free and the conditions are that you smile and
talk to it everday,keep it in a cool place and not take
it out till September 15th and then put it in a pot.
A month later, these pots will be added to a garden
in front of your building."

I hesitated a bit.

She made a move as if to go, adding that, "If you can't look after
it, then it's better you don't take it".

What the heck, I thought. This is quite interesting. I have never
grown a plant before and this seems to be easy. I just have to
smile and talk to it daily till September 15th. I think I can
handle that :-). I took the plant from her.

This morning, I got an email from ETA-STAR -

Sharjah International Airport Air Arabia LLC has made its inaugural
flight to Mumbai in India with Air Arabia officials, guests and press
accompanying the flight.

Air Arabia’s first flight flew an official delegation; led by Air
Arabia’s Chairman Sheikh Abdullah Bin Moh’d Al-Thani, CEO Adel Ali and
other officials to Mumbai Airport where they were met by dignitaries,
press, airport and governmental authorities. Following the flight,
guests were greeted with a reception in the airport.

Speaking on the occasion, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Moh’d Al-Thani said:
“India is a key market for us and was part of Air Arabia’s initial
business plan when our operations commenced; we are extremely pleased to
start operations to Mumbai today. We are committed to offering our
passengers the best value and the highest quality of service and look
forward to increasing trade and tourism between our two countries. Our
thanks go to the Indian government and civil aviation authorities for
their role in facilitating the start of operations to Mumbai.”

Flights will depart Sharjah International Airport daily at 16:40 and
arrive in Mumbai at 21:00 local time. From Mumbai, flights will depart
every day at 21:45 and arrive in Sharjah at 23:25 local time. With these
convenient timings, business travellers can enjoy the day in Mumbai for
meetings and visitors get to enjoy the whole day sightseeing and
shopping before returning on the evening flight to Sharjah.

A one-way ticket from Sharjah to Mumbai starts from AED 249 - excluding
government taxes and surcharges and similar return fares will also be
available. As Air Arabia’s fare structure is based on supply and demand
and fares increase as more seats are booked on a particular flight,
booking early will allow customers to take advantage of these fares. Air
Arabia will offer substantially lower fares than other airlines and will
ensure that fares will be at least 15-20% lower than other airlines at
all times.

Commented Adel Ali: “After announcing the start date for flights to
India and simultaneously loading the flight schedule into the system,
2,800 passengers were booked in the first 24 hours. This is an important
route for Air Arabia as by connecting India to our existing routes, we
can now offer Indian nationals in the region the opportunity to travel
more often at lower fares to India for business or leisure. We look
forward to enabling Gulf residents and tourists that have not been able
to afford air travel in the past to start travelling and those who do
travel to do so more frequently.”

With the addition of its fifth Airbus A320 earlier this year, Air Arabia
will be offering travellers to and from India the very best in customer
comfort with brand new aircraft combining the widest and most spacious
seats in its class and the largest seat pitch in the market – that of 34
inches – in comparison to 29 and at the most 31 inches offered on most
regional airlines. In addition, Air Arabia offers an in-flight
entertainment system with both video and audio choices to passengers on
short and long haul routes.

A True Gem of a Find
Maybe many of you are already aware of Ceragem, but Bedowin had the opportunity to experience it first hand at Al Hana Centre, 1st floor in Satwa (roundabout). You can't miss the huge posters and banners on the Ceragem centre windows.

What exactly is Ceragem?
It is a Korean accupressure health treatment, modernised by a motorised bed with jade rollers that roll up and down your spinal column applying infra-red rays.
The benefits are manifold - it relaxes you, relieves you and cures you of back and neck ailments, the infra-red rays detoxify your blood - vitalises you, your skin starts to shine, lose pimples etc. It is supposed to be very good for diabetes and other ailments.

What exactly happens and what you have to do
Once you reach Hana centre and enter the Ceragem centre on the 1st floor, you can take a token and if there is batch about to begin (they have batches every one hour , starting at 9 am I think, this goes on till 6 PM), you are straightaway ushered into the lecture hall. A Ceragem instructor uses video, models of the spinal cord, slideshows and explains to you how the spinal cord bones and nerves function througout the entire body and what the Ceragem bed device does and what should you do to use it effectively. This takes not more than 15 mins.

You are then ushered into the Treatment area. There are separate halls opposite each other for men and women with male and female instructors respectively. Its good to take 2 blankets and a face towel of your own though some are available at the centre - its good to have your own. You can spread one on the bed and cover your self with the other.

The machine is switched on by the ever helpful Ceragem instructors, once you are a regular, you can operate the machine yourself. The jade rollers go up and down massaging your back. There are 2 handheld devices connected to the bed, these are the infrared applicators, you have to apply them on areas of your body where you need treatment. Its also applied to the face over a handtowel.

After 45 mins, you can turn and lie on your stomach, and the procedure is repeated. If its your first time, the instructors talk to you as you lie on the bed and give you instructions and advice on using the devices effectively.

The best part is the whole thing is free and you can go there as many times as you like. My mom and aunt - both diabetics - are daily visitors. I'll keep you guys updated on their progress.
Ceragem has 2 centres in Dubai, one in Al Hana Centre, Satwa and the other at the Al Mulla Plaza, Ghusais.

The treatment is free because the Korean founder makes most of his money in selling the beds and believes it is ethical as well as good marketing strategy to give free treatment to those who can't afford the bed. More about them at http://www.ceragem.com.
